Week of Sept. 29, 2026: Tech Held Up as Broader Equities Pulled Back

The S&P 500 finished the week lower, while large-cap U.S. technology was comparatively resilient and ended near its recent highs. The tape remains constructive but selective, favoring disciplined risk management and attention to liquidity.

The S&P 500 closed at 7,670.84, down 1.21% on the week and 0.53% in the latest session. Even after the pullback, the index remains well above its 52-week low of 6,316.91 and below its recent high of 7,816.70, leaving the broader trend intact but less uniform than in prior weeks.

Large-cap U.S. technology, proxied by the XLK ETF, was comparatively resilient. XLK ended at 194.50, down just 0.18% for the week, but rose 4.74% in the latest session and sits close to its 52-week high of 198.73, suggesting that leadership remains concentrated even as the broader market softens.

What this means for our strategy: we continue to favor a systematic, risk-managed posture that emphasizes liquidity, trend confirmation, and disciplined exposure sizing. In an environment where index-level volatility can rise while select growth areas hold up, we are focused on avoiding crowded risk, respecting signals, and allowing portfolio weights to adjust with the market rather than against it.
